Earth Day x Oregon Body & Bath

Honored to Carry Sustainable Brands That are Making a Difference

The community of Bend, Oregon is one that is made up of amazing people and companies who are constantly working together to keep this town, and planet, beautiful.

What does Earth Day in Bend, Oregon look like? There are river cleanups, group hikes to pick up trash off the trails, company-hosted park cleanups and so much more. People gather to discuss climate issues, environmental changes and how to advocate for Mother Earth.

In our downtown shop, we are honored to carry many eco-friendly brands that go above and beyond to make the world a better place. We wanted to shed a bit of light on some of the sustainable brands, their products and what they’re doing to change the world.

But first… let’s talk a little bit about Earth Day!

About Earth Day

The world’s first Earth Day was in 1970 when 20 million Americans mobilized to call for change, protection and attention to the planet. Then, two decades later in 1990, Earth Day became a global movement. This time, 200 million mobilized in 141 countries!

Now, Earth Day is recognized by over one billion people looking for ways to protect our planet and live more sustainably. Luckily, Earth Day has since had such an impact on the world that changes are made everyday (not just on this special day) to create change locally, nationally and globally. Sustainable Brands in Oregon Body & Bath

We carry many amazing brands in our shop and we love them all so much! They bring joy to our customers for so many different reasons which fills us with happiness. For this very special day, we’d like to highlight a few of our very sustainable brands and how they’re making a difference in the world.

Axiology is a sustainable beauty brand like no other. Their products are made with clean ingredients, they do not test on animals, they choose clean manufacturing practices, and they’re 100% transparent about their sustainable choices.

Axiology was started because the founder, Ericka Rodriguez, simply wanted cruelty-free, sustainable lipstick and was shocked at how difficult it was for her to find a good product. She realized if she wanted it done right, she’d have to do it herself which is when she developed a 10-ingredient lipstick that checked all her ethical boxes.

Axiology products are vegan, cruelty-free and always contain 10 (clean) ingredients or less.

One last thing we want to mention about this amazing brand is they also have the world’s first zero-waste 3-in-1 crayons. We can’t clap enough for this plastic-free achievement. This brand is making changes everyday, not just on Earth Day!

Whether you visit us in-store or shop online, check out their uniquely gorgeous lipsticks. There is a color for everyone!

Yala Designs

There are so many good things to say about Yala Designs. Staff and customers LOVE this brand for many reasons. They have an incredibly soft and comfortable clothing line, but they also practice sustainability in numerous important ways.

First, the primary fabric used for their clothing lines is bamboo. This decision wasn’t made lightly though and here are some of the characteristics that helped seal the deal.

Bamboo is a renewable resource. It’s the fastest growing woody plant on earth, growing so rapidly and abundantly that it needs thinning every 2-5 years to prevent die-off from overcrowding!

Also, it’s organically grown, without pesticides. Plus, bamboo roots prevent soil erosion. Learn more about this unique, sustainable material here.

Lastly, the manufacturing process that Yala uses is one that is renewable, sustainable, provides economic development and safety for the workers. This process is often overlooked by many companies so hearing their story will set your standards pretty high! Learn more from Yala Designs.

If you haven’t already guessed, the Yala line is a customer-fave in our shop. Just one feel of this outrageously soft fabric and you won’t be able to let go. Come by the shop to feel for yourself, or shop conveniently online on our website.

Are you overwhelmed with sustainable goodness yet? We’ve got more to share so hang on…

Wow, this brand is really making an impact in more ways than one! Coola makes organic sun-care skin products. Their two big ways of practicing sustainability is through clean ingredients and waste reduction.

Skincare products should contain clean ingredients, always… right?

Unfortunately, wrong.

Luckily, Coola has the environment and their consumers in mind when it comes to their product line. Their products use ingredients that follow sustainable farming practices AND support local communities. The ingredients are sourced responsibly and use minimum impact extraction and harvesting methods. The crew at Coola are taking all the right steps towards making the world a better place to live for all.

Coola’s promise to waste reduction is obvious in their packaging. They use glass as much as possible and have a goal of making 100% of their containers recyclable by 2023.

Now is the perfect time to come by the shop and check out their sunless tan products that make you feel beautiful without ever risking your skin to sun exposure.

Spinster Sisters

The last brand we’re eager to highlight is Spinster Sisters Co. who make skincare products that are “good for you, good for the planet, and made with ingredients you’ll actually recognize.”

What’s not to love already, right?

Their mission and values state “We are committed to creating safe and gentle skin care products that benefit our consumers, our employees, and the Earth.”

How do they do that?

They use essential oils, minimally processed plant oils, and botanicals in their products and incorporate biodegradable materials and sustainable processes. Their products are made right here in the US at their wind and solar-powered Microsoapery, using ecologically sound ingredients, procedures, and packaging.

How cool is that?

Their eco-mission is carried throughout all of their products and we are so happy to be able to bring them to our Central Oregon shoppers and beyond by offering a few on our website as well.
